BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Muniru Muhammad Mai is the Director, Cybernetics and Automation in the Research, Technology, and Innovation (RTI) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). His role in this position includes among others:
• Assessing new advances in technology and finding the most innovative ways to deploy them in the NNPC to help maintain the Company’s competitive edge.
• Providing technological incubation services for “techpreneurs” and startups to support deployment of digital technologies in NNPC's operations.
Mr. Mai came to RTI from NPDC—and NNPC’s exploration and production arm, where he served as the General Manager, Information Technology Department. Prior to his transfer to NPDC, he also served as the Executive Director Services of Integrated Data Services, Ltd, another upstream company of the NNPC.
Mr. Mai is a graduate of Physics and was awarded various performance prizes at graduation. Other academic certificates include:
• Master of Science in Computer Science from the City University, London, England.
• Executive MBA, in Energy Management from the BI Norwegian School of Management, Oslo, Norway and IFP/ESCP-EAP, Paris, France; as well as Nanyang Technology from the University of Singapore.
His career began in the United States of America, where he worked in the Information Technology sector, with his work taking him across states including Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia, and Washington DC.
Mr. Mai worked with various organizations while in the US including:
• Johnson & Johnson in Boston, Massachusetts, as a Systems Analyst
• Computer Associates Inc. Jacksonville, Florida, as Senior Systems Consultant
• DynCorp, Inc. Reston, Virginia, as Senior Systems Consultant
• Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), Washington DC as a Consultant
Mr. Mai has attended various workshops and seminars locally and overseas, including Regulatory Principles, Practices, and Compliance in the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry (2015); IT Infrastructure Management (2014); Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Certification (2012); EMBA, Energy Management, Oslo, Norway (2010); Extensive Team Building and Leadership Development Programme at Total Oil Co. (2008); IT infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification (2007); Executive Development Programme (EDP) at Kellog School of Management of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA (2006) and PRINCE2 Project Management Certification (2005).
He has also distinguished himself with various memberships of Professional affiliations including Kellog Alumni Energy Club, Evanston, IL, USA, IEEE, Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria.
His hobbies include Tennis, Football, adopting new Technology and Monitoring Current Affairs.
He is happily married with children.
